Safety Features to Consider Before Buying a New Car

Safety features can play a big role in case of fatal crash or prevent a car to crash, Countries improving the ways by implementing a new ways to reduce deaths by car accident, In 2015 Global NCAP announced a policy (A road map for safer vehicles) with the collaboration of all UN members to implement minimum standard safety rules for all  cars from 2017 onward and it must be implemented till 2020.

Some of the major countries already implemented a long ago and some of them still needs to be implement.

A little introduction before explaining safety features to consider before buying a new car, rating from certified body can help you to choose about how safe the car is and what are the necessary criteria for buying a car and what to ask for when buying a new car as an additional.

List of Global NCAP Criteria of Standard Safety Features Before Buy a New Car:

  • Seats belts & Anchorages
  • ABS-EBS brakes
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
  • Safety Assist technology (Forward Collusion Control warning, Electronic Stability control).
  • Frontal Impact

A separate bodies of different NCAP affiliated with Global NCAP, each body represent designated countries, Certification is must to all automakers operating in the countries to certify from the representative body of NCAP before selling any car brand.

K-NCAP Standard Safety Features:

K-NCAP follows global N-CAP safety features except the roll over resistance is an added test, Further can be check from K-NCAP site in detail of each car rated by K-NCAP.

India & Africa N-CAP Standard Safety Features:

The Global NCAP independently tested various vehicles of Indian and African market cars and results for those cars are shown on the website of Global N-CAP, However only Volkswagen polo in Indian market got more than 4 star rating and in Africa Toyota Etios have a 4 star rating.

A year ago Indian government formed a new safety standards program on the name of Bharat New Safety Assessment program to perform test on the cars based on stated criteria to meet Global NCAP standards so far they are failed to meet these standards. However program had been formalised by indian government in 2014 and the date to start car testing in 2015 but due to insufficient funds the program was unable to started.

Indian BNVSAP will be start at the end of 2018 or early 2019

Note:

  • These are the bodies which tested to the limits and also assess safety assisted features before reaching to the results.
  • A key factor to consider when buying a car can be checked by simply the rating on the car from relevant N-CAP body.
