New generation Honda Civic breaks cover ahead of global debut

On April 28th, Honda will unveil the 11th generation Honda Civic. Ahead of that, the Japanese automaker has released a teaser image of the upcoming Civic, which appears to be very similar to the 2020 prototype.

Honda Civic made its debut in 1973 and has since gained legendary status, especially among petrol heads. The Civic has passed through ten generations and will reach the eleventh this month. On April 28th, the next generation Civic will be unveiled in the United States by the Japanese automaker. However, the company has sent us a sneak peek at the production model of the new Civic. To refresh your memory, Honda unveiled the prototype for the next-generation Civic in November of last year. Surprisingly, the production model, at least visually, does not deviate from the prototype.

The new Honda Civic pays homage to previous ones, as shown by the retro styling. With its sleek, swept-back headlamps, the executive sedan seems less provocative than the current iteration. However, these are LED units with LED DRLs, which give the car a more modern look. A compact body-colored grille, a muscular front bumper, and a wide air intake are all featured on the sedan. The new Civic has a more aerodynamic clamshell bonnet with creases than the previous edition, and a prominent character line running the length of the car gives it a rugged stance.

The company’s official illustration clearly depicts a sloping roofline and a sunroof. The big five-spoke alloy wheels add to the new Honda Civic’s overall appearance. Given the similarity between the production model’s fascia and the prototype’s, it’s fair to say that the rear design would be identical as well. This means that the new Civic would almost certainly get new split tail lights to emphasise the vehicle’s wider width than its predecessor.

The interior of the new Civic has yet to be unveiled, but Honda did release an official statement last year revealing that the sedan would have a more modern dashboard layout than the current-generation model. A nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a completely digital instrument panel will be standard. The Honda Sensing safety suite, which includes several airbags and other driver-assistive technologies, will be updated for the 11th-generation model.
