List of Ford Edge Dashboard Symbols and their Meaning

Adaptive Cruise Control (If Equipped)

The color of the speed control system indicator light changes to show which mode the system is in.

On (white light):

Illuminates when you turn the adaptive cruise control system on.

Turns off when you turn the speed control system off.

Engaged (green light):

Illuminates when the adaptive cruise control system engages. Turns off when the speed control system is disengaged.

Anti-Lock Braking System

If it illuminates while you’re driving, it means there’s a problem. Unless the brake system warning signal also glows, regular braking (without anti-lock braking system) will continue. Have the system inspected by a certified technician.

Automatic Headlamp High Beam Indicator

It illuminates when the system turns the headlamp high beam on.

Auto Start-stop

It flashes to alert you when the engine shuts down or when you receive a message.

Battery

It signals a problem if it glows while driving. Turn off any superfluous electrical devices and get the system evaluated by a qualified technician as soon as possible.

Blind Spot Monitor

It illuminates when you switch this feature off or in conjunction with a message.

Brake System

This lamp is a dual-function lamp and illuminates when:

  • You apply the parking brake with the ignition on.
  • Your vehicle has a brake fault or low brake fluid level, regardless of parking brake position.

Cruise Control

It illuminates when you switch this feature on.

Direction Indicator

When you turn on the left or right direction indicator, or the danger warning flasher, it illuminates. Check for a burned-out bulb if the indicators stay on or flash faster.

Door Ajar

When the ignition is turned on and any door is not entirely closed, this indicator appears.

Electric Park Brake

When the electronic parking brake malfunctions, it glows or flashes.

Engine Coolant Temperature

When the engine coolant temperature is too high, it illuminates.

Stop the car as quickly as possible, turn off the engine, and wait for it to cool.

It also lights briefly when you turn on the ignition to ensure the lighting is working. Have the system examined by an authorized dealer if it does not illuminate when the ignition is turned on or begins to flash at any time.

Low Washer Fluid

It illuminates when the windshield washer fluid is low.

Parking Lamps

It illuminates when you switch the parking lamps on.

Stability Control Off

When you turn off the system, it glows. When you turn the system back on or turn off the ignition, it will turn off.

Engine Oil

If it glows while the engine is running or while driving, there is a problem.

Stop your car and turn off the engine as soon as it is safe to do so. Check the oil level in the engine.

Fasten Seatbelt

It illuminates and a chime sounds to remind you to fasten your seatbelt.

Front Airbag

This signals a fault if it does not ignite when the ignition is turned on, continues to flash, or remains on while the engine is running. Make an appointment to have your car inspected as soon as possible.

Front Fog Lamps Indicator (If Equipped)

Illuminates when you switch the front fog lamps on.

Hill Start Assist Indicator

Illuminates when the system is not available.

Powertrain Fault

When the system detects a powertrain or all-wheel drive issue, it illuminates. As soon as possible, contact an authorized dealer.

Service Engine Soon

If it illuminates when the engine is running this indicates a malfunction. The On Board Diagnostics system has detected a malfunction of the vehicle emission control system.

If it flashes, engine misfire may be occurring. Increased exhaust gas temperatures could damage the catalytic converter or other vehicle components.

Avoid heavy acceleration and deceleration and have your vehicle serviced immediately. It illuminates when you switch the ignition on prior to engine start to check the bulb and to indicate whether your vehicle is ready for Inspection and Maintenance (I/M) testing.

Normally, it illuminates until the engine is cranked and automatically turns off if no malfunctions are present. However, if after 15 seconds it flashes eight times, this indicates that your vehicle is not ready for Inspection and Maintenance (I/M) testing.

Stability Control

When the system is turned on, it flashes. If it remains lighted or does not glow when the ignition is turned on, there is a problem. The system will shut down if there is a problem. Contact an authorized dealer right once to have the system inspected.

Keyless Warning Alert

The horn will sound twice when you exit your vehicle with the intelligent access key and your vehicle is in RUN, indicating your vehicle is still on.

Headlamps on Warning Chime

Sounds when you have left the headlamps or parking lamps on and open the driver door with the vehicle off.

Parking Brake on Warning Chime

Sounds when you have left the parking brake on and drive your vehicle. If the warning chime remains on after you have released the parking brake, have the system checked by your authorized dealer immediately.
